Paintings with Sounds

Susan merges her love of travel and plein air painting with a fascination for onomatopoeia, translating sound into a visual language. By using words that imitate sound, she transforms the act of listening into something that can be seen and read. Her paintings invite viewers to engage their own voices—internally or aloud—adding personal interpretations to the sounds represented. In a time of sensory overload, she proposes that meaningful connection begins with intentional listening. This work is an invitation to rediscover the world through the subtle language of sound, approached from the perspective of someone for whom English is a second language
