Synergies arise from the fact that Mr Loong also runs Ublues Group Pte Ltd, an event/artist management company - so events at Timbre benefit from professionally managed publicity. Timbre also supports The Substation in its activities such as the annual Septfest, and the works of local artistes such as the DVD launch of Tan Pin Pin's Singapore GaGa earlier this week.

Timbre hasn't started turning a profit as yet but with the crowds steadily growing, Mr Loong says: 'We aren't going anywhere, we're here for the long haul.' And judging by the growing popularity, variations of the art+retail+F&B concept seem like a profitable way for cafes to go.
